The review corresponding to PRISMA recommendations is devoted to the problem of obesity and chronic venous insufficiency (CVI). Reports from PubMed and Cochrane databases have been enrolled for the period from 2004 to 2018. Only particularly important articles were selected among those with small sample size and long-ago date of publication. Trials with significant «experience-control» differences are presented. In all reports, obesity implied body mass index (BMI) ≥30 kg/m2, overweight — BMI 25—30 kg/m2. According to the analysis, overweight and obesity are highly likely to be not only risk factors but also pathogenetic factor of chronic venous disease of lower extremities. Further prospective researches are necessary to determine the effect of overall weight and visceral fat loss on venous hemodynamics in lower extremities and severity of CVI.
