Abstract
This paper deals with computer simulations of laser welding of plates made of dissimilar metals using a composite intermediate insert. They are performed with the previously developed 3D numerical model implemented with the collocations and least squares method. The use of the composite insert when welding dissimilar alloys prevents the formation of brittle intermetallic phases that adversely affect the strength of the joint. Based on the proposed mathematical model, the features of butt-welding of titanium and stainless steel plates and aluminum and titanium plates are investigated. The rational thermal conditions of laser welding and the geometric parameters of the welds are determined.
