Dynamics of explosive vaporization in metastable liquids under pulsed heating

Abstract

The characteristics of explosive boiling of water, propanol-1, propanol-2, n-nonane were obtained using optical method for measuring the laser intensity reflected from the microheater surface. A multi-layered thin film heater was used in the experiments with size of 100x110 μm. The experimental data show that high heat flux density provides the conditions for the phase explosion patterns. Four major stages of explosive boiling on microheater were selected and the dynamics of filling the heater surface with vapor phase, the lifetime of the main vapor bubble and the satellite bubble were determined.
