Abstract

The heating of a mixture of as-precipitated scandium hydroxide and tetrafluoroterephthalic acid in methanol is accompanied by acid decarboxylation and the formation of a tris-(2,3,5,6- tetrafluorobenzoato)scandium complex compound. According to the data of the single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, the compound has a chain structure due to the carboxylate anion functioning as a μ2-bridging ligand. The polymer chains are linked together by interactions between the phenyl rings.
