Abstract

The article aims to study the linguistic expression of social management actions in the oral speech of scholars of Novosibirsk Akademgorodok on the material of decoded audio recordings of the scholars' speech in six informal public conversations held in the framework of the project "Legends and Myths of Akademgorodok" organized by the Section of General and Russian Linguistics of the Institute for the Humanities of Novosibirsk State University. The general meaning of a social management action can be described in the following way: the first social subject entrusts the second social subject to perform an action. Consequently, the first subject is the leading participant of this situation. Thus, the analyzed management actions consist of managing and executive operations, so they are complex co-agentive, or cooperative, actions whose subjects perform different operations yet tend to achieve the same goal. The complete structure of this action includes the following elements: the managing subject, or initiator (S1), the predicate with the semantics of a management action (Pr1), the executing subject, or performer (S2), the predicate with the meaning of an executive action (Pr2), i.e. any action, not only social action. Initiators also use sanctions and incentives, which are special social management actions, to evaluate the results and to stimulate performers. Along with this, the boundaries between managing and executing subjects are relative and are set by a specific situation. This is explained by the feature of the state management system, in which one subject being the initiator in relation to a certain performer is simultaneously a performer in relation to another initiator who is higher in the social hierarchy. It is important that the management situation can be complicated, because actions of this type, like any other, can be regularly reproduced; as a result, social management activity is formed. Social management actions are divided into official and unofficial in terms of the legal formalization of the action itself and the relations between its subjects. Social management actions are mainly official actions, because the management situation itself implies, first of all, legally formalized hierarchical relations between its participants. The analysis of structural types of social management actions showed that usually they are not realized in the full of the structure in the studied material. This fact can be explained by the peculiarity of the colloquial speech that allows speakers to omit some obvious social meanings and by the principle of economy of speech efforts. At the same time, the managing operation (its predicate) is verbalized in almost all cases, so it is more important for informants than the executive operation. Various linguistic means are used for expressing the components of the described actions in the investigated speech of scholars.
