Abstract

This paper is devoted to the problem of photorealistic rendering of optically isotropic and anisotropic absorbing crystals (media), notably computing light absorption during ray propagation though a crystal media. The paper describes a local model for calculation of ray attenuation during its propagation though isotropic, uniaxial, and biaxial media. A physically correct algorithm of rendering anisotropic absorbing crystals was built on the developed. The model is intended to be used in ray tracing algorithms allowing their authors computing pleochroism phenomenon in a physically correct way.
