Abstract
In N. Vitsen’s book Northern and Eastern Tartary and S.U. Remezov’s works Drawing Book of Siberia and Service Drawing Book, the Yeniseisk’s ostrog is depicted very similar, which means that authors used some common and earlier drawing (protograph). In these pictures, the Yeniseisk’s ostrog has eight towers, four of which are passageways, and three exits in the wall that runs along the bank of the river Yenisei. There is no wall around buildings on the right bank of the river Melnichnaja. All this suggests that the pictures represent the Yeniseisk’s ostrog was built in 1667. The picture of this ostrog N. Witsen could get from Moscow, from his friend A.A. Vinius. In 1696 S.U. Remezov received a task from A.A. Vinius, who headed the Siberskij Prikaz, to make a map of Siberia. A.A. Vinius also provided S.U. Remezov with the necessary materials, probably drawings of Siberian cities, which are depicted on Remezov’s maps. In the following years, the
fortifications of the Yeniseisk’s ostrog were destroyed for a number of reasons, but each time they were restored. The remains of the fortress fortifications of the 17th — the early 18th century are shown on the plan of the city made in 1735. The study of documents, maps and drawings make it possible to find the location of fortifications and reconstruct the appearance of cities and ostrogs in Siberia in cooperation with the work of archaeologists.
