The Institute of Philosophy and Law as an independent structural scientific and educational unit of the Novosibirsk State University was established on April 4, 2016. It included:

• Department of Philosophy
• Department of Law

The Department of Philosophy of the Novosibirsk State University was established in 1993 for the preparation of masters in philosophy on the basis of higher education, the first bachelors were admitted in 2010. The faculty is rightfully considered the leading philosophical school of Siberia.

In 2015, according to the rating of QS World University Rankings by Subject in the direction of "Philosophy", NSU entered the group of 151-200 leading universities in the world

The Department of Law of the Novosibirsk State University was established in 2003 to train specialists in the field of "Jurisprudence", highly qualified lawyers able to provide legal support for a wide range of political and socio-economic tasks, in a dynamically developing domestic market oriented both to the Siberian region and on international relations.

The establishment of the Institute is designed to improve the quality of student training, the introduction of new training directions on the basis of a combination of the fundamental foundations of classical university education and diversification of its applied component, taking into account the requirements of modern society, as well as the development of new spheres of scientific research, new forms of interaction with employers and the expansion of interuniversity and international cooperation.
